There have been additional research partnerships that have been evaluating the link between farming and climate change.

In Whatcom County and Yakima valley where the two primary dairy centers are located, there are seven anaerobic digesters installed. However, these digesters perform anaerobic digestion, which is the process of turning organic matter into methane. Also, cows in these centers provide the wet organic waste that converts into methane in the absence of oxygen. This methane is then collected and used to produce combined heat power or renewable methane fuel.

These and many other areas have found a fuel alternative by using biogas generated from the dairy wastes. This project is also environmentally friendly and reduces the effects of global warming.
